I am trying to upgrade my Epiphone Dot to get a sound closer to an ES 335. I know I probably won't get the exact same tones out of it but w/e. I have...

Pickup choices for Epiphone Dot - forum.seymourduncan.com

Want to upgrade both pickups in my new dot as they're cheap and muddy / harsh sounding - really want smooth, warm, fat bottom-ended high gain sounding pickups, but with some good crunch for when I'm overdriven. Really fancy a humbucker sized P90 - thinking about the Seymour Duncan SPH90-1 Phat Cat - and just wondering if anyone has any experience of these in a Dot? Very Cool Mod To An Epiphone Dot | A Guitar Forum

So, a guy on another forum had a black Epiphone Dot But he wanted it to have P90s, and he wanted dog-ear P90s. So he did a little work (and added a Bigsby while he was at it) and ended up with this beauty: The Golden Era returns with the Original Collection. Paying tribute to our iconic past, the Original Collection brings back the classic guitars that shaped sound across all generations and genres of music.

Epi Dot Studio upgrade............ | Telecaster Guitar Forum

A couple of months ago I picked up an Epiphone Dot Studio in mint condition with a hardshell case for $150 locally. These sell at GC for $299 without a case so this was a good deal....I had it professionally set up and was surprised as to how well it played and sounded. Fortunately, both companies have lower priced versions. The Fender Standard Strat is made in Mexico and you can pick up a used MIM Strat for about $300 to $400. And Gibson owns Epiphone and license them to make Les Pauls, so a used Epiphone Les Paul can be purchased in the $250 to $350 range. So for those of us on a BUDGET, these are good ...

Upgrading Epiphone Dot with better electronics, tuners ...

Im thinking of upgrading an Epiphone Dot with GFS 59 pickups. Should I upgrade the wiring too? If so, with what? Should I get the Guitarfetish Les paul kit? Also if I want to upgrade the bridge and tuners where could I get good, inexpensive replacements? I like the greenish Klusons on the ES 335. I sold my Ibanez AS73 awhile back and bought a 2001 Samick-made Epiphone Dot (in ebony, of course) in incredible shape, especially for it's age. I know it was likely a trade down, but I did pay less for the Dot than I sold the Ibanez for and I like the feel and looks of the Dot a lot more. And I got a hard Epi case to boot.

i just picked up one of these and so far i like it. but the pickups are not great by any means. i was wondering what some good ones to look at would be? as with all of my guitars i will use it for blues to down tuned stuff with a lot of gain like down and sabbath type stuff. i am new to the semi hollow body guitars so i have no clue. I've got my Epi dot out and have been playing it the last week. I made some of the same upgrades as you. I replaced the pickups with Gibson '57 classic and classic+ and a custom '50's wiring harness. I did the same knob and switch tip upgrade as yours and I also put a Gotoh bridge on because I couldn't get it to intonate properly. I ended up ... This is a Epiphone Dot 335 forum at Guitartricks.com. I like the Dot. Even though it's an Epi, you'll find few naysayers. Gets a really Beatles-like tone if you play it over a Vox amp, and if you use a little overdrive and up the bass it sounds like a Les Paul.

Epiphone Dot Upgrades? | My Les Paul Forum

Hello all, I have an Epiphone Dot Deluxe, which is by far the cheapest guitar in my collection. But I have to admit, I do kind of like it. It wouldn't stay in tune worth a crap when I got it, so I replaced the piece of crap plastic nut with a Tusq, which worked wonders. It stays in tune now... I have an Epiphone ES-335 pro and believe me, it needs no upgrades, the stock pickups sound great, and the electronics work fine. If you want to spend money on it, I'd wait down the line until it actually needs it, (perhaps aspects of the electronics in 4 years). Stock it comes VERY close to a Gibson. You can maximize Epiphones already decent ...

Epiphone Dot From Japan | A Guitar Forum

Epiphone Dot was introduced in 1997 so of course there is no such thing as a 1970's Dot. Besides the Elitists made in Japan for import to US, there was a Japan Market only Epiphone Dot from the late 90's made by Terada I believe, and although I've never seen one since they would be extremely rare in the US, it would certainly be a very high quality guitar. Funny you compared it to a Gibson dot, as my dads 335 is a Gibson dot, and back to back with his, the epi is superior in tone, and he admits it. His dot doesn't get much play time because it's got such a dark tone, it's been rewired professionally with decent pots and still the same! Weird! Glad to see at least another one on the forum!

Epiphone Dot vs Epiphone Sheraton II - Electric Guitars ...

So that could be close to $200 right there. maybe better electronics, better made, better binding/headstock inlay, etc. Overall I think the Sheraton II is probably just a better guitar. Based on reputation alone and only having played a Dot (which was pretty nice, but needed upgrades) I would take a SH II over a Dot without hesitation. A review of this guitar which is in my opinion one of the best bangs for the buck out there. Recorded on Marshall TSL 60, no effects, apart for the reverb of the amp. Epiphone Dot vs Casino | Telecaster Guitar Forum

I have the Epiphone Dot. It's a lovely guitar, but I wish I'd got the Casino on reflection as more of my idols use it. To me, the Dot seems to be a copy of the 335, whereas the Casino seems like a guitar in it's own right... This customer came to me a little while ago who wanted better tone. So I removed the small, cheap Tone and Volume pots along with the horrible, little Tone Caps. They have now been replaced with ...
